March 2020 - Act I - At the Crossroads
On March 2, following a year of script development, LatinX Theatre performed our production of The Crossroads at the 2020 Northwest Arkansas Spring Arts and Culture Festival. It was the first time we’d performed the play since its debut as a workshop production for the 2019 Arkansas New Play Festival at TheatreSquared. Since then, we’ve continued to fine tune the work, developing our characters, movement and songs to take it to the next level. In addition to work on the page, we got the show on its feet and devised new movement sequences to help tell our story. Additionally, we put in the work in TheatreSquared’s Scene Shop to make some custom LXTP acting cubes. Check ‘em out.
For those who haven’t had the chance to see it. The Crossroads is a generational story. It’s about a young woman that’s in love with music, and a young man, and he’s love with music too. They sing together, rhyme together and unexpectedly begin a family together. They leave Mexico to build a life in California, but when a new road toward security opens up, they pack up and move to Arkansas with their little girl. As the years pass, their daughter grows to love music in the same way they once did and they all face the choice to journey toward their dreams or to continue down the path toward what’s safe.
If you didn’t catch it, no te preocupes! We have plans to bring the show to Springdale this summer. So stay tuned.
