“Intersection of Life and Art”

In March of 2020, before the world shutdown, we participated in the Northwest Arkansas Community College’s  (NWACC for short) Spring Arts and Culture Festival. For some of us it was our first time performing as a member of LXTP or in front of people period! It was a milestone we will never forget. Fast forward to March 2022 and what did we do? Participating in the NWACC, Spring Arts and Culture Festival but this time we were hosting a writing workshop. Some of the things still remained the same, for some it was our first time holding a workshop in front of a crowd of over 45 people, since the beginning of 2020; and some it was their first time in a group appearance as an LXTP member. 

With two years away from the NWACC stage, we have continued to create a safe space for voices to be heard and those who long to share a piece of their work, have the power to do so. NWACC’s theme of Interdependence challenged us to think of how our lives and art in different forms intersect. Our prompt for the writing workshop title was,” Write to Speak”, and we encouraged those who attended to create a piece that shows the intersection of cultural, economic, social, scientific, or political and to do it in the form of a poem, rap, monologue, scene or song. 

What was created and shared was amazing, and we applaud everyone that had the courage to share with us. Some intersected their personal lives with culture and some political and social. Below we have provided a few videos of the work some created.

As the world begins to open up we hope to hold more workshops that open the space for artists to feel safe making their art. We invite you to attend our Kickback Concert on April 10th, 2022 at Theatre Squared in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
