The Power In Collaboration

This past July we had the honor of working with Director/Dramaturg Rudi Goblen as a part of the Arkansas New Play Festival at Theatresquared. When we first entered our first rehearsal we came in with a script we were already so proud of. Stories of characters that we knew the audience would be able to connect with were on the verge of blossoming. As we began the table read with Rudi, we realized that we had written two stories in one. Through a series of intricate questions about each character and our end goal, we began to dissect the script page by page. The changes that followed brought so much more intensity to the story.

Each day of rehearsal Rudi started us off on our feet. He led us through exercises that carried our minds into the inner workings of our souls. Something that we really looked forward to was the journey that we were about to be led through because that’s how each day felt. A journey. I feel like this level of bonding and writing brought us back to our roots before the pandemic. Being virtual for two years didn’t really affect our dynamic in writing, but we definitely felt more empowered as performers.

All of the work we have done this past year has led up to our production of ‘Arrivals y Salidas’. It feels like a very long journey, but we are so proud of the work we have done. Julia Rosa Sosa is joining us in directing our play. She is from El Paso and has done so much for the Latinx/Mexican community there. Her expertise ranges from writing, music, acting, directing, and so much more. We are so excited to work with her!

The play will run from November 3-5, 2022. We will have tickets available on Eventbrite soon.
